1. John Dutton Became the Governor of Montana
In the first episode of Yellowstone Season 5 Part 1, we see that John Dutton won the election and now is the Governor of Montana. But he doesn’t like his new job at all. And after this new job, he temporarily teamed up with his series-long enemy Thomas Rainwater, the head of the Native American reservation. Besides, John also fired a number of office employees and introduced his people into their positions.Yellowstone Season 5 Recap

John defended environmental activist Summer and her girlfriend from prison, and he detained her under house arrest in his own home. Beth hates Summer; by the end of the season, they are shown to be fighting with each other. The men around them let them get at it, and when they finish beating each other up, they find out that what they actually needed was to thrash each other to make things right.
2. Relationships of the Dutton Family Have Evolved
Beth and Rip have an on-and-off relationship throughout the series but in Season 4, they get married to each other and in Season 5 Part 1, they were living their own kind of happy married life. Rip knew that Beth could not have children, and he wasn’t aware of the reason for it. Beth and Rip manage to find the runaway teenager Carter; however, he is not that keen on having him when they finally meet. Later, he sees himself in the kid and how John Dutton had taken him under his wing. In a big turn of events, Rip opens up to the boy and agrees that the boy is his and Beth’s child.
Kayce is very evidently not in the mood to take the inheritance of the Yellowstone Ranch which makes Beth and Rip the heir of the family business. After getting disinterested in the takeover of the family business, he, along with Monica’s relation with the family especially John Dutton, starts getting better.
Monica is pregnant with her second child and just when everybody thought that things would get better, Monica goes into labor, but because nobody around was available, she gets into her car to drive herself over to the doctor. On her way, she experiences an accident and although she survives, Monica loses her baby. Monica gets depression, and then it is John Dutton who consoles her by telling her that he too understood and felt the pain when he lost his baby brother many years ago. This makes the relationship between John and Monica firmer.
3. Jamie and Beth Have Become Arch Rivals
Beth also makes a power play in Season 5 by making it impossible for Market Equities to take over 28,000 acres of Montana land in a conservation easement. However, she lets her temper get the better of her once again in this season as well. She is involved in a bar fight where she hits a woman flirting with Rip in the head with a bottle. Luckily, the woman did not file charges and Beth walked free.
Instead, Jamie begins dating a Market Equities Lawyer named Sarah who becomes his biggest ally in Jamie’s wish to take down the Dutton family. Nevertheless, Beth had the upper hand again on Jamie and knew that Jamie murdered his real father Garrett Randall and used that information to put a leash around his neck.
Jamie did not let up even after that as he initiated an impeachment inquiry on John for abuse of power with personal gains, using his position as Attorney General. Jamie said John had wrongfully taken the ground and stopped an airport that would be of great benefit to the state of Montana. There is no revelation concerning the findings of the inquiry part 1 so lets just wait and see what happens.
